Hot Box: TV worth talking about

Spears Carrier: Britney Spears has been talking about nothing but her March 24 cameo on How I Met Your Mother, an encouraging change from those conversations between the voices in her head. Kidding aside, the tabloid queen earned the CBS sitcom its highest ratings ever, and herself the only positive press she's had since the MTV Awards. People mag says Spears has approached the show about a return engagement, and it's apparently good to go.

You may recall that Alicia Silverstone was originally slated to play Britney's boss but backed out after Britney was hired, leaving the role to Scrubs' (and Canada's own) Sarah Chalke, who very deservedly got rave reviews. Next season both actors will be on ABC as it takes over Scrubs and Silverstone stars in the net's new comedy Bad Mother's Handbook.

Dirty Dancing: Yet another Dancing With the Stars couple has been spotted offstage, paso doble delicto. Partners Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough were photographed Thursday, smooching and cuddling on a Malibu beach. It has not gone unnoticed that there's a 12-year age difference between them, with Elizabeth the elder not-quite-cougar. Which means they could double date with fellow spring/summer "showmancers," Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere of Heroes. Might I suggest a trip to the mall, followed by dinner for four at Chuck E. Cheese.

Hassles for The Hoff: Being David Hasselhoff isn't all beer and bratwurst (see, he's a big star in Germany, and ... oh, never mind). First, the poor guy is accused of hitting on contestants on America's Got Talent. Last week, he finally settled the terms of his acrimonious divorce from Pamela Bach, losing half of everything he owns, with an additional $25,000 a month in support payments to her and their two teenage daughters (of whom they now share joint custody). It's enough to make anyone turn to drink ... though this apparently has nothing to do with Hasselhoff's checking into the UCLA Medical Center on the weekend: his eye started bleeding profusely on Saturday. No word on the specific cause, but have you noticed the odd absence of crow's feet on the actor's onetime craggy face?

Best Bets

8 p.m. A special Extra Special: Beauty and the Geek Special (it's very special) on Citytv and the CW.

9 p.m. Stick with Citytv or switch to Fox to see Gordon Ramsay send someone to the hospital on Hell's Kitchen.

NBC and E! simulcast Saturday Night Live's Best of Chris Farley.

10 p.m. An "appealing" new Boston Legal on ABC and Global; a murdered money manager (no shortage of suspects there) on Law & Order: SVU, NBC and CTV.
